What you would learn in VirtualBox: Fundamentals for Linux/Windows course?
This course was designed as the introduction to Oracle VirtualBox for beginners. It is ideal for students as well as inspiring I.T. professionals who are fascinated by virtualization. Learn more about the network adapters in VirtualBox.
By the end of this course, students will be competent to:
Use and install Oracle VirtualBox for Linux or Windows.
Create a shared folder that is shared.
Create a snapshot, and then export or import a virtual machine.
Enable and make use of USB pass-through.
To complete this course and make use of VirtualBox, Students will require the following information: (from VirtualBox's documentation):
Decently strong hardware for the x86. Any recent Intel or AMD processor can be used.
Memory. Depending on what guest operating system you'd like to run, you'll require at least 512MB of RAM (but likely more, and the more RAM you have, the more). In general, you'll require the amount of memory your host operating system requires to function well and the amount the guest operating system requires. If, for instance, you want to install Windows 8.1 on Windows 7 and Windows 7, you're likely not to be able to enjoy it with less than 2GB of RAM. Find the minimum requirements for RAM that the host operating system must meet. They typically won't install if offered less. Sometimes it will malfunction instead. Therefore, you'll need it for the guest only and the memory that your operating system typically requires.
Space on the hard disk. While VirtualBox itself is highly slim (a typical installation would require about 30MB of space on the hard disk) however, the virtual machines require large files on disks to represent their hard storage. For instance, installing Windows 8 will require an image file that can quickly expand to 10GB in size.
An accepted host operating system that VirtualBox supports. Presently, we offer support for Windows and a variety of Linux distributions, Mac OS X, Solaris, and OpenSolaris. Go through the user's manual for the VirtualBox version to determine which versions are compatible. To get the most recent VirtualBox version, refer to this manual.
A compatible Guest operating system. Besides the user guide (see below), current information is available on "Status of Guest OSes."After you've learned how to use VirtualBox, you will be able to install multiple operating systems such as Windows and various Linux distros.
