Part 1 in the class "The Practice of Enterprise Architecture provides an overview of the notion of enterprise architecture and other related subjects. This chapter focuses on the concept and purpose of Enterprise Architecture, its place and function within the larger context of organizational structure, essential constituting elements and fundamental elements of an EA practice, and the benefits to business and the advantages of employing enterprise architecture in companies.
Part I comprises seven consecutive sections:
The first section (Introduction) explores the function that IT plays in IT modern companies, discusses the issue with business and IT alignment, and introduces the idea that enterprise architecture could be a possible solution.
2. (The Idea of Enterprise Architecture) describes the broad meaning of enterprise architecture EA process and EA artifacts and the roles of architects and the architecture function within organizations.
The 3rd section (The Role of Enterprise Architecture Practice) examines the need for enterprise architecture, the advantages of using enterprise architecture, and the historical background of current EA best practices. It explains what the practice of enterprise architecture is not.
4. (Enterprise Architecture and City Planning) provides the essential elements for an EA practice and outlines six critical kinds of EA artifacts based on the close resemblance between city planning practices.
Section 5 (The Dialog Between IT and Business)) The typical difficulties associated with using a business strategy as the foundation for IT planning. It also outlines five valid discussion points to help establish a productive dialogue between IT and business. IT
Section 6 (Processes in Enterprise Architecture Practice) discusses the three significant steps that make up an EA practice. It also defines the relationships between them and gives an overview of the process-centric aspects of an EA practice
The 7th section (IT initiatives as well as Enterprise Architecture) describes the role of IT initiatives within the framework of EA practice, outlines five kinds of IT initiatives, and explains the process of these initiatives through the various processes that comprise an EA practice
